Rathdrum Walks and Trails

Rathdrum Tidy Towns, sponsored by County Wicklow Partnership, have put together a lovely booklet featuring 4 local walks and trails around Rathdrum. A crisp autumn day like today is perfect for getting out and about with all the family! These include:

  • The Main Walk which starts and finishes at The Parnell Memorial Park
  • The Jubilee Loop Walk which is a very suitable family walk and incorporates local Mass paths and the famine graveyard.
  • The Mill Walk (one of my personal favourites) is also family friendly and includes views of Kilcommon station, Railway viaduct and the Rathdrum flour Mill
  • The Parnell Railway Walk featuring views over the Avondale river, the River Viaduct and  Avodale House and Gardens.

Walking in this area is always a treat with so much natural beauty and wildlife to be seen. Unfortunately their website ( rathdrumtidytowns.com)  is currently down however you can telephone the Rathdrum Tourist Office on 0404 46262 to get a copy of this great walking booklet featuring images and guide maps.

The Wicklow Way Walking Trail

The "Wicklow Way" Irelands first long distance walking route, of 130 kilometres, is part of a network of long distance self guided walking tracks throughout Ireland, its easy accessibility with a wide variety of scenic experience, much of it in truly remote areas, the “Way” is the most westerly part of the E8 footpath which extends across much of Europe and overlooks the shores of Lough Dan, as it winds its way through Wicklow from Marley Park in Dublin, to Clonegal in Co. Carlow.

Walking Trails by hillwalkers for hillwalkers

WalkingRoutes.ie was created by hillwalkers for hillwalkersWalkingRoutes.ie the website that allows you to find walking trails near you.

WalkingRoutes.ie was created by hillwalkers for hillwalkers. Frustrated with a lack of trail maps in Ireland the website was created so that a community of users could create and share their own trails.

Knowing how many unofficial trails that only locals must be aware of WalkingRoutes.ie's aim is to enable the sharing of this tribal knowledge. http://walkingroutes.ie/WalkingTrails/
