Glendalough-Glen Dha Loch – (glen of two lakes) Wicklow

Woof!- Visiting Glendalough, Wicklow:

wicklow photos from chris bolton -living life the wicklow way Glendalough (meaning glen of two lakes) is part of the Wicklow Mountains National Park and is the most visited part of that park. Its’ main attractions are the stunning scenery of this glacial valley and the monastic site of St Kevin which rests here. Many tourists find it hard to spell usually coming out with something like glendarlok! And who can blame them?

There are information boards all around which tell you of the ‘regeneration of oak’ project which is ongoing, plus they run a variety of interesting walks throughout the summer and autumn such as Bat walks, Dawn Chorus walks and Rut walks (to name but a few!). wicklow photos from chris bolton -living life the wicklow wayThese walks are free of charge but you should book ahead as places are limited and very popular ( Do dress appropriately as I have seen folks soaked to the bone and shaking with the cold because they wore a light anorak and runners!).

Check out the Wicklow mountains national parks’ website here for contact information, advice and events calendars: www.wicklownationalpark.ie

The upper lake is a very scenic picnic area  (yum!) where you can truly relax and on a still day the reflection of the surrounding mountains in the vast lake is breathtaking! I am very brave and wicklow photos from chris bolton -living life the wicklow waysometimes swim in the lake which I find thrilling! Often small children delight in throwing sticks in for me to fetch which is great craic of course!

October Deer Walk in Glendalough

Telescopes will be set up  with guides on hand to chat and answer your questions about the glens’ famous deer.

Call into the information office for directions to the telescopes, this is a small change from previous years where guides used to escort you- however, just wear appropriate clothing and bring a warm drink and food.
