Glen of Imaal, Wicklow
Visiting the Glen of Imaal:
Being a rather small sized dog I don’t much like loud noises so if your like me it would be best to check if the artillery range in the Glen of Imaal is active on the day of your visit. You can do this by contacting Glen of Imaal Army Warden Office at ![]()

The infamous celebrated survivior Michael Dwyer (1798 rebellion) was from the Glen-of-Imaal so it is perhaps unsurprising that the area is steeped in culture and folklore with a touching trail developed in 1998, depicting his life and involvement in the rebellion. You can obtain this trail leaflet from Wicklow County Tourism at www.visitwicklow.ie
Why not visit Fentons Pub to see a photograph of the imposing monument to Dwyer at Waverly, New South Wales, Australia.
The Glen of Imaal is a popular walking trail with the Lugnaquilla mountain situated here – this is the highest mountain in Wicklow - 13th in Ireland - (thank you MB ) plus many challenging walks for the seasoned hill walker. These hills can be dangerous if your not prepared properly – its ok for me, I’m a dog , have a fur coat and can drink from puddles, but humans should check here for information and advice before setting out: www.wicklownationalpark.ie
