The Glencree Visitor Centre

Glencree Visitor Centre WicklowGlencree is dedicated to providing leadership and support in practical peacebuilding, and works to transform violent conflict within and between divided communities in Ireland, North and South, Britain, and elsewhere in the world.

Set amidst the historic site of Glencree is the Armoury Café and Shop which is located in the old armoury building alongside the Military Barracks.

An exhibition area on the upper floor of the café puts into perspective all of the main historic events and their effect on the surrounding area, including Operation Shamrock. This exhibition illustrates the period in time (1946) when hundreds of needy German children were brought to Ireland by the Irish Red Cross to be fostered by Irish families for up to three years.

Visitors are also encouraged to visit the Lourdes Grotto and the German Military Cemetery.

We also run regular events many of which are family friendly.

The Armoury Café and Gift Shop

Glencree Visitor Centre WicklowThe Armoury Café and Gift Shop is located on the site of the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation, selling local produce and crafts.

We serve delicious desserts, muffins and scones, a selection of freshly made sandwiches, heartwarming soups, salad bar, a hearty full day breakfast, kid’s specials and more.

Top all that with great coffee, a variety of teas in cosy surroundings overlooking the Wicklow Mountains and of course, a warm welcome!

The opening times are 9.30 – 5.00 Monday to Friday and 9.30 – 5.30 Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.  Visit us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/#!/Armoury.Cafe.Glencree.

Profit made from the Glencree Visitor Centre (through the Armoury Café) goes towards the Peacebuilding Work of Glencree
