Visiting Kilcoole:

Kilcoole lies just 3km south of Greystones and 14 km North of Wicklow town. It is a rapidly expanding town most famous as the setting used for the old (1980/90’s) popular Irish television series ‘Glenroe’ – Rember Miley and Biddy? (I am showing my age here.)

The village is made all the more picturesque with the existence of an area known as the Rock which is a wild area of about a quarter of a hectare in size.

The well known Murragh (marshland walk) begins here and runs right up to Wicklow Town. It is an area of marshland home to many endangered species of plant and animal and is a bird watchers paradise with Ringed Plover, Little Tern and Oystercatchers, hundreds of duck, Wild geese and swans all habiting the area.

The beach in Kilcoole is home in the summer to the Little Tern and is one of the very few places in Ireland that the Little Terns nest. The low sand hills on the upper beach boast a wide range of salt resistant wild flowers and this coupled with the distinctive song of hovering skylarks creates a memorable atmosphere for the beach stroller.

Hotel

It is near here (less than a km away on the newtownmountkennedy road) that the well known Druids Glen Marriott Hotel and Country Club encompassing the highly regarded Druids Glen Golf Club is located See their website www.druidsglen.ie for details.
