Visiting Glenmalure Co Wicklow:

wicklow photos from chris bolton -living life the wicklow wayGlenmalure is 65 kilometres (40 miles) south of Dublin City (approximately one hours drive away) and only 13 kilometre (8 miles) down the road from Glendalough.

It is a truly scenic glacial valley location with many activities available such as hill walking, canoeing, golf, angling and horse riding!

There is fabulous accommodation available here in the form of Scandinavian type log cabins with verandas overlooking this scenery at www.glenmalure.com. Just picture it, you and a few of your good pals chilling out with fresh walks in the day crossing rivers and picnicking on the hillside then in the evening having a nice pint of Guinness in the local.

The nearest pub (apart from the golf clubhouse) is a real ‘old-mans’ pub called M J. Byrne which serves a grand pint o’ the black stuff just a mile down the road.

Glenmalure Hostel in Wicklow is a simple mountain hut – perfect for nature lovers who want to get away from it all and is contactable on +353 18304555 or you can view it here on An oiges website.

Alternatively – if you like your creature comforts take a cab – remember to book it to get back later!!!,(tel:get number) to Jacobs Well in Rathdrum which has just been recently renovated and is a lovely welcoming pub with great food available at reasonable prices. Noel and Helen are very hospitable hosts.

Whilst in Rathdrum you can avail of a choice of pubs and if you fancy splashing out why not book a dinner in Bates restaurant (by the Cartoon Inn) which serves fine cuisine and wine- they even warm your brandy glass, mmm . Booking is necessary though so do phone ahead on :+353 (0)404 29988.

This is an ideal romantic break for the outdoor lover – well that’s what I heard my human sigh.
