Brittas Bay Wicklow

Brittas bay is a beautiful stretch of sandy beach on the east coast of Wicklow which runs for 5kms (3 miles) with many holiday home parks in the area (Jacks hole, Stauntons.)

It is a very popular destination for day trippers on those fine sunny days – of which we have so few in Ireland!, many of whom travel from nearby Dublin to swim and bask in the sun.

In high season there are a variety of food vans selling yummy burgers, hotdogs and ice-creams and, although I do of course feel sorry for a ‘little one’ when their ice-cream falls, I am always happy to lick away the mess thus reducing the likelihood of attracting wasps! (see, I am a helpful little dog.)

Brittas Bay is also a popular fishing spot with bass and dogfish (hah! whoever heard of such a thing?) to be caught here in the summer months and codling and whiting abundant in the winter.

The dunes of brittas are home to many interesting wildlife species and plants. Brittas bay also has the proud achievement of winning a European blue flag for 5 consecutive years making it safe swimming for all especially children and surf dogs like me !! There is a small mini-market down the road and many mobile home and holiday home parks in the area.

The nearby corna bay leisure centre hosts a small but impressive gym with swimming pool, sauna & Jacuzzi facitilies, however you should phone ahead to check availability on 00353 404 47228

There is ample parking at brittas bay- do note, however, that as of 2005 there is a charge for using the car park . It is advisable to drive extra slowly in the summer especially, as many children are lugging their surf boards / beach towels / parents / suncream..across the road from nearby holiday homes.

If you fancy a jar you can now avail of the courtesy-bus put on by Jack Whites pub to collect you and drop you home.

Activities include the Gormanstown manor driving range tel; 00353 404 20995 behind the beehive pub, and for the golf enthusiast the European golf club is located along the coast road near Mac Daniels pub
